Cloister & Benedictine foundation
St. Mang
The Benedictine foundation
reaches back to the work of St. Magnus at 750 A.D. in Füssen.
The native
master builder Johann Jakob Herkomer who, however, primarily learned his
architecture education in Venice planned the excellent baroque plant arranged
symmetrically. So an Italian style includes the observer here.
Fürstensaal (Royal Hall)
The "royal hall" forms the highlight of the plant and stoccoed equipment which the interior designer Andrea Maini planned and the court painter Franz Georg Hermann formed with his stuccoed richly. One can enjoy the hall also in the royal hall concerts which are organized every year from June until September.
Refectory
The extensive picture programme underlines the significance of the abbey as a spiritual and worldly centre in the Füssener country. Already in the 18th century the plant as remarkable also became assessed, specially the original order of library and refectory (dining hall) in the south section. An oval opening of the ceiling connects both rooms with each other and symbolizes the unity of intellectual and physical food of mind and body.
The baroque rooms can be inspected over the museum of the city of
Füssen which is housed today next to the city
hall.
