Augsburg & its Golden Hall
(110km from the Hotel Zum Hechten)
The name of this city goes back to the Roman provincial capital Augusta Vindelicorum (also known as Augusta Vindelicum) which was founded in 15 BC by Roman emperor Augustus als Castra. This also makes Augsburg one of the oldest cities in Germany.
The town hall is truly a sight to be seen. The most significant secular building of the German Renaissance was built from 1615 to 1620 by Elias Holl. The Golden Hall, built in 1624, is one of Germany’s most impressive representative rooms.
