Lake Constance & the Seebuehne Floating Stage
(110km from the Hotel Zum Hechten)
Situated in the northern Alpine foothills, Lake Constance actually consists of three bodies of water: the Obersee lake, the Untersee lake and a part of the Rhine River, the Seerhein. These two lakes and the connecting river are located in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The great infrastructure for tourism, as well as a well-connected network of attractions, sights and excursion destinations, is crucial for this area. Important sights in this area include: the cities of Constance, Ueberlingen, Meersburg, Friedrichshafen and Lindau; the Rhine Falls near the town of Schaffhausen; Mainau island; Bregenz and its one-of-a-kind Seebuehne stage; Reichenau island with its UNESCO World Heritage Site; and the prehistoric pile dwellings in Unteruhldingen.
The Bregenz Festival and other festivals which take place on the lake are especially famous: every summer, an opera (musicals and operettas as well, but less frequently) is held on a firmly fixed stage on the shores of Lake Constance. The gigantic Seebuehne stage is the largest open-air festival stage in the world.
